Sometimes it doesn’t have to be a big tour at all. A quick ride through Tölz, just over the Isar bridge – and you’re sitting with a coffee, an Aperol or a bite to eat right in the middle of Tölz life.
Café Heimat is located on Lenggrieser Straße, right by the Isar bridge and opposite the bus station. It’s certainly not quiet and secluded here. But the spot is central, lively and often wonderfully sunny well into the evening. The traffic doesn’t really bother us. On the contrary: a bit of hustle and bustle is simply part of it for us and makes up part of the special atmosphere.
We especially like to ride over on the Vespa at weekends or in the early evening. You sit outside in the sun, watch the goings-on around the bridge and enjoy a coffee, a cold drink or an Aperol. They also serve delicious home-baked cakes, smaller dishes and savoury snacks – just right when you don’t want a big meal but don’t want to stick to just a drink either.
The name “Heimat” is actually quite fitting. Angelo Cannata took over the already existing café in May 2019 with the wish to create a place where guests could feel at home and almost like part of a family. And you really notice that about the café: it lives less on an elaborate gastronomic concept than on its personal atmosphere, the many regulars and the uncomplicated way people interact.
The friendly and attentive service also contributes to this. Even when it’s busy outside, guests come and go and Tölz life passes by around the Isar bridge, they keep track of everything. You feel welcome and well looked after.
This also fits with what we experience there time and again. Café Heimat is one of those places where you casually bump into neighbours, acquaintances or other Tölz locals who are also just stopping by. Then what was meant to be a quick visit quickly turns into a little chat, you stay sitting a bit longer than planned and find out what’s currently going on in town.
Perhaps that’s why the café particularly lives up to its name. It’s not a hidden insider tip and not a quiet excursion spot somewhere out of town either. Rather, it’s an uncomplicated meeting point right in the middle of Bad Tölz – personal, lively and pleasantly relaxed.
For us, Café Heimat is a nice destination for a short Feierabendrunde, a spontaneous weekend visit or a sunny finish after a Vespa tour. You ride over, sit down – and quickly feel a little bit at home.
